Our Pedigree
Founded primarily as a shooting coaching company 12 years ago, our business model has developed with the times. Every year that has passed since, we have a renewed passion for the industry and the wider rural economy.
Over the years we have help countless shooters with improving their game and introduced a huge number of people to the sport, while at the same time growing our own skill set and networks. Along side field sports, we have worked in Agriculture for all of our professional lives and appreciate the dedication of the UK Farming industries and their partners. From showcasing new and innovative machinery, to documenting farm life and animal welfare, we have been privileged to be involved all the way.
Growing up around the farming industry, Murray developed a passion for all things rural at a young age. As soon as he could reach the pedals he was pestering the local farmer at every opportunity to get behind the wheel of whatever had an engine.
Agriculture has been the backbone of his professional career and he has worked as an operator both in Scotland and overseas. He went on to work for a very large machinery dealer in sales for a number of years, and laterally moved to work for one of the largest machinery manufactures in the world in their sector.
From a young age he has had a passion for shooting, spending his money on ammunition and days in a pigeon hide or on the peg with his friends.
He competed in Clay Shooting on a local level for a number of years before stepping up to a more serious national level, when he retired from the Rugby field having played for numerous clubs. He qualified as an SCTA Shooting Instructor and quickly set about with his second aspect of shooting passion - teaching others. This initially began with entirely new shooters but as his own skill set grew, so did his ability to teach higher level shots.
Murray is entirely open about his abilities as a coach, and when his students reach a certain level he passes them on to other top professionals who can help them even further. His talent was recognised by the Bisley Shooting Group who generously offered him a sponsorship progress him further. This helped him to gain his first International Cap for the Scotland Shooting Team in 2017, and more recently representing his country again in Ireland, 2019. Since then he has developed his sales skills into article writing and journalism, and is a regular contributor to Clay Shooting Magazine.
His love of amateur photography was thrust into the professional scene with the publication of his articles, and private commissions soon followed.
He recognised that his experience in agriculture could also be another branch to his small company, and accepted commercial photography commissions soon after, with stunning results.
Throughout his professional career he has taken care to network and build strong connections with other field sports professionals, and works closely with them on projects both small and large. With the help of these trusted professionals and his wife, Louise, he aims to offer all the services of Lock Stock Sporting to the highest calibre.
He is still proudly Sponsored by Bisley Shooting Group, and more recently gained a second sponsor, Ardmoor. In addition to sponsoring his clay shooting ambitions, Murray acts as a brand ambassador and in house shooting Expert for Ardmoor, as well as writing regular blogs about all things shooting. Murray is a hugely comfortable person to have around and soon makes clients feel at ease, always striving to be as helpful as he can. Since growing his business, he uses trusted professionals to help with the workload for photography and coaching under the Lock Stock Sporting banner, but whenever possible he is at every job in person.
